Melissa Bryan's husband hurried down the halls of the hospital. Anxiety hung about him like the smell of antiseptic in the air. He didn't know what state his wife would be in, after her car was rear-ended by a tour bus.
The bus was following too close behind her, and slammed into the back of her car. She hit the car in front of her, spun, and the bus hit her again. The vehicle was utterly totaled. Every pane of glass was shattered. The front and rear end looked like crumpled up paper someone threw into the trash.
Yet, when Greg Bryan walked into his wife's hospital room, he found her intact. Her Subaru Outback had absorbed the impact in carefully engineered crumple zones, and deployed airbags. The unimaginable force the tour bus slammed into her vehicle was diverted away from the passenger cabin.
Melissa walked out of the hospital, and made a quick recovery.
