Performance
The new Subaru Outback utilizes a flat-four engine where the two pairs of cylinders are opposed horizontally. This base engine of the Subaru Outback is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque with CVT and standard all-wheel drive.
An optional 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine delivers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This engine powers the Limited XT, Onyx Edition, Touring XT and Wilderness trims. The turbocharged engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while the 2.5-liter engine has a maximum towing capacity of 2,700 pounds.
The Outback has a ground clearance of 8.7-inches, which enhances its capability, especially when off-roading. The all-wheel drive, responsive steering and suspension give the Outback a refined ride even on rough terrains. The base engine has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged engine has slightly lower efficiency, driving up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Design
All the new Subaru models get styling updates except for the Wilderness trim. The front receives more aggressive headlights, a restyled grille that extends further down and new fog lights. The sides have some protective cladding to give the Outback a distinctive style. The base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, which also receive a powerful new design.
The Interior of the Outback has a functional cabin with quality materials. The interior is spacious, with plenty of legroom and headroom for passengers. You get folding rear seats which expand the cargo spaces from 32.6 cubic feet to 75.6 cubic feet. The base trim comes with a power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone climate control and heated front seats. Other standard features include a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
Safety
Subaru is committed to making safe vehicles and providing plenty of driver-assistance features for the new Subaru Outback. The EyeSight® system is now standard on all models and features lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Other safety features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and an LCD rearview mirror.
